Recent FCCAN Actions on Budget & Policy

The Board of the Falls Church Climate Action Network has been busy this fall working to improve the City of Falls Church’s budget and policies regarding energy and climate.

Early Input to City FY 2027 Budget Development: In late November, the FCCAN Board provided the City Council with early input for the formulation of the FY 2027 City Budget, which takes effect in July 2026 and will be considered in the coming months. FCCAN wanted to highlight critical budget decisions relating to both the operating budget and the Capital Improvements Program before a draft budget is released.

Comment on Solar Power for Schools: FCCAN provided comments to the Falls Church School Board, pointing to the opportunity to save money by early action to install solar panels on the roof of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School.

Funding for Commercial Energy and Climate Investments: FCCAN wrote to the City Council to endorse the proposal by City staff that the City adopt authority to use the State of Virginia C-PACE program to support financing of commercial investments in energy and climate projects.

Input to City on Virginia State Legislative Priorities: FCCAN urged the City Council to include in their annual submittal to State legislators the need for action on some key, state-level policies to support energy and climate improvements. FCCAN provided the same input to state Delegate Simon and state Senator Salim.
