A Busy Year for FCCAN

As we near the end of 2025, the FCCAN Board can report on a diverse range of actions and projects, all intended to help Falls Church reduce fossil fuel use and respond to the climate crisis.

Here are some of FCCAN efforts this year:

  • Candidate Questions: FCCAN developed questions related to energy and climate for City Council and School Board candidates and published the responses on the FCCAN website.

  • City Climate Plan Implementation Assessment: FCCAN evaluated the City’s progress toward implementing the adopted energy and climate plans for City government and the community more generally.

  • News and Events: FCCAN’s emails explained the phase-out of federal incentives for green technologies and notified you of e-mobility and home decarbonization events in the area.

  • Lawn Equipment Event and Video: FCCAN supported residents in switching from gas powered lawn equipment to electric equipment through an event to recycle gas equipment and a “how to” video (see this FCCAN blog post).

  • Policy Actions: FCCAN provided input to the City on a range of policy topics including development of energy and climate elements of the FY2026 and FY2027 budgets, adoption of commercial financing tools for energy efficiency (C-PACE), acceleration of solar power for City schools, and City input to State of Virginia legislative priorities (see this FCCAN blog post).

  • Fall Festival Energy Table: FCCAN members (you all!) staffed the City's energy-efficiency and heat-pump table at the Fall Festival.

  • Public Outreach: FCCAN Board members reached out to community groups to talk about energy and climate issues (e.g., talking to Daisy Troop 50255 about the benefits of Leaving the Leaves and addressing climate change by shifting away from fossil fuel use).

The FCCAN Board of Directors also took steps to strengthen the organization. FCCAN is now recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. That means that FCCAN can now apply for government and other grants that are limited to nonprofit organizations, and any donations to support FCCAN work are deductible on federal taxes.
